Susie Rogers Daniels

Birthdate: Unknown

Birthplace: South Carolina

Deathdate: on 8 MAY 1947

Spouse(s): Jasper DANIELS (On Unknown; Unknown)

Susie’s parents were Andy (1847-?) and Caroline Lovinggood Rogers (1839-1894).

In 1894, Susie and Jasper’s first child, Pearl, was born. That same year, Susie’s mother, Caroline, passed away. In the years that followed, the rest of the children came (from oldest to youngest): Wilbur H., James K., McKinzey, James C., Sibbel, Caroline, Elizabeth, Lota, and George. All of the children attended school.

By 1900, Essie Rogers, youngest sister of Susie and Ida Rogers, is living in the household with Susie and Jasper. This seems to indicate that their parents, Andy and Caroline Rodgers had passed away. Essie, only aged 14, likely had nowhere else to go. At this time, the family was living in Wagener, Oconee County, South Carolina.

Although Susie spent several years taking care of the children, by 1920, when the children were older, Susie seems to have started working as a schoolteacher.

On May 8, 1947, Susie died of “paralysis” and “high blood.” She was buried in West Union, South Carolina. According to one relative, the Daniels family had their own cemetery. I have yet to find out who all is buried in the cemetery, but it seems to be located here: Eastside Old Walhalla, South of Union Crossing Rd, West Union.
